Although the inspiration model as 2 different colors of drapey "insets" in the left side I decided to start with just one. In order to give it more "drape" I used the following pattern idea to cut out the inset (adding seam allowances and markings on the curved edges)
I "slashed-and-spread" on the lighter blue lines which added 4-5 inches to the length of the side seam of the bodice, which would hopefully give it enough "drape".
Here is the result which I'm more satisfied with---I think the "Slash and Spread" is the right way to make an asymmetrical drape
I'm enjoying watching your progress on this challenge. This iteration looks pretty wearable (unless you have to keep your hands on your hips to make it work), but I wonder about the pouch effect on your left which might be a little more droop than drape. Did you alter the other pattern piece?

ReplyDeleteYou know, it seems to me that you might want to slash the other pattern piece too. Maybe diagonally along where the folds appear on the inspiration dress.
I love the test garment with the browns. I think it looks stunning on you. I might have to copy it for myself in blues, reds, or purples ...
